FISCAL ANALYSIS

ASSUMPTION

Officials from the Department of Public Safety - Director’s Office and Highway Patrol each assume the proposal would not fiscally impact their respective agencies.

Officials from the Boone County Sheriff’s Department assume the proposal would not fiscally impact their department

Officials from the St. Joseph Police Department assume the proposal could result in an unknown amount of cost to their agency.

Officials from the police departments of Jefferson City, Columbia, Kansas City and St. Louis Metropolitan did not respond to our request for fiscal impact.

Oversight assumes local police departments will not incur additional costs by following the additional steps outlined in the bill, since the bill requires verification only on those persons whose nationality or immigration status cannot be made from documents in their possession and does not require the prisoner to be held in jail until the immigration status is determined or the federal government takes over the prisoner.
